Invisible Citizen

Role: Art Direction + Brand Design

Invisible Citizen is a non-profit project created with statelessness activist Maha Mamo to raise awareness of people who are not legally recognized as citizens by any country.

We created the Visual ID of an “Invisible State” with its own flag and passport, designed as a protest at the United Nations for the right to belong, bringing attention to this.

What if no country recognized you as its citizen?

Dandelion

The identity is built around the dandelion, a plant whose seeds travel freely, cross borders, and take root wherever they land. Each variation represents a different person, shaped by a different story, but connected by the same condition.

Dandelion's patterns

Our visual identity system also includes a series of dandelion pictograms.

They are representing different people but one common problem enabling us to create unique icons that are variations of the same visual structure.

Maha Mamo

Global Speaker, Life Mentor and Human Rights Activist

Stateless for almost 30 years, she was born in Lebanon, but for religious reasons, she was recognized as a citizen because her dad is Christian and her mother is Muslim.

Only in 2017 she got Brazilian citizenship, and now she is an important voice at the United Nations

Passport

The Invisible Passport looks like an official travel document, but instead of granting access to a country, it reveals the stories of people denied that privilege.
